Henniker, NH - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon volleyball team opened up the 2018 season with a pair of non-conference matches at New England College on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets dropped a 3-0 decision (25-15, 25-13, 25-20) to Fitchburg State University in their first match. Next, they fell in straight sets (25-7, 25-15, 25-11) to the host Pilgrims.

After cruising to wins in the first two sets, the Falcons were able to complete the sweep by pulling away late from a 17-17 tie. Paige Anderson topped Fitchburg State with seven kills, while Meredith Taylor set the table with 13 assists. Faith Richard (Achshnet, MA) recorded three kills and seven digs for Lyndon, while Alexis Britch (Essex Junction, VT) added five digs.
New England College 3, Lyndon 0
Tihani Ehia and Julia Ostrov led a varied Pilgrim attack to the sweep, posting six and five kills respectively. Richard recorded three more kills for the Hornets and posted six digs. Lexie Walker (Groton, CT) also posted six digs.
The Hornets return to play on Sunday when they travel to Southern Vermont College to compete in the 2018 Vermont Volleyball Classic. Lyndon will face the host Mountaineers at 10:00 am and Norwich University at noon. On Monday, the Hornets will complete pool play against Northern Vermont University-Johnson at 10:00 am. Once pool play is complete, the top two teams will play for the Classic championship at 4:00 pm, while the third and fourth place teams will play in a 2:00 pm consolation match.
