Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's tennis team hosted Lesley University at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon, coming up on the short end of an 8-1 decision. The match was Lyndon's first North Atlantic Conference contest of the season, while the Lynx improve to 2-0 in NAC play. The Hornets are now 1-2 overall on the campaign, while Lesley improves to 3-1.
Lesley jumped out to the early advantage in doubles play. #2 doubles was the most competitive of the three matches, with the Lesley duo of Mary Pulling and Morgan Anderson downing Lyndon's Faibe Achinda (Hinesburg, VT) and Oo Mai Be (Winooski, VT), 8-4. Maddie Abbott and Grace Jovanovich picked up a 8-1 win over Emilie Dube (Bristol, CT) and Savannah Jackson (Barre, VT) at first singles, and Lesley's Summer Lamprey and Joselyn Martinez won at #3 with an 8-0 shutout.
The Hornets picked up their only win of the afternoon in third singles. With Jackson leading 6-3, 4-3, Pulling was forced to retire. Lesley swept the other five flights, as the Hornets weren't able to win more than two games in any one set.
