Hornet women's tennis drops 6-3 decision to Johnson State

Lyndonvile, VT - The Lyndon State College women's tennis team posted three flight wins but dropped a 6-3 match decision to Johnson State College on Thursday afternoon.  The loss left the Hornets at 0-9 on the season, while Johnson improved to 5-6.  More significantly, both teams came together to wear pink and raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer.

The Lyndon duo of senior Nichole Jones (Lisbon Falls, ME) and sophomore Faibe Achinda (Hinesburg, VT) had a strong afternoon.  Jones defeated Johnson's Nicole Monick (Bennington, VT), 8-3, at first singles and Achinda knocked off the Badgers' Sarah Lind (Winooski, VT) 6-4 (retirement) at 5th singles.  Jones also teamed with with sophomore Savannah Jackson (Barre, VT) to pick up an 8-6 win over Monick and Kali Covell (Hartford, VT).  Johnson captured each of the other six flights to earn the team win.

Lyndon will host Green Mountain College in a North Atlantic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.  Johnson hosts Castleton University on Saturday.
