Lyndonville, VT - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Fisher College in a non-conference women's soccer match on Tuesday afternoon. The Hornets fall to 1-11 on the season while the Falcons improve to 3-11-1.
Lyndon goalkeeper Lauren Young (Concord, VT) and her Fisher counterpart, Olivia Handy, both made multiple stops to keep the game scoreless through most of the first half. The Hornets finally broke the ice in the 44th minute when Ashley Hart (Hampton, NH) slipped a pass to Rachel Palladino (Manlius, NY), who got behind the defense and beat Handy to make the score 1-0, Lyndon, heading into halftime.
The Hornets maintained their lead for much of the second half. In the 76th minute Fisher's Wilnette Memeus took advantage of a Hornet giveaway and sent a pass to Meghan Menzel. Menzel got behind the defense and put the equalizer past Young. The score stayed 1-1 through regulation.
In the 96th minute Memeus put away Menzel's cross for the game winner, sending Fisher home with the win.
Both teams had 27 shots, with Lyndon earning six corner kicks to one for fisher. Handy made 19 saves to earn the win, while Young had eight saves.
The Hornets will return to North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they host SUNY Delhi. Kickoff is set for 3:30 pm.
