Lyndonville, VT - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon junior Christopher Chichester (Orleans, VT) continued the impressive start to his Hornet career, taking third place in a field of 83 runners at this morning's NVU-Lyndon Invitational meet on the Lyndon Cross Country Trail. Chichester covered the 6K course in 23:15.8, just over a minute and a half behind race winner John Hassett of Maine Maritime Academy. Jarrod Ottman of Thomas College finished second, eight seconds back of Hassett.
Freshman Michael Bear (Colchester, VT) finished in 20th place with a time of 25:49.6, while junior Peter Gilding (St. Johnsbury, VT) finished 47th with a time of 30:07.7. Two freshmen running in their first collegiate race, Joseph Gonzalez-Lyons (Plattsburgh, NY) and Matthew Sheridan (Groveport, OH), rounded out the scoring runnr for the Hornets. Gonzalez-Lyons finished in 37:39.0, with Sheridan just 2.4 seconds behind him.
Maine Maritime took team honors, outdistancng runner up Thomas. The Hornets finished seventh in the field of eight North Atlantic Conference schools in a meet that serves as a preview of the NAC Championship, which will be held at Lyndon on November 2nd.
The Hornets will compete in the University of New England Invitational in Biddeford, ME next Saturday. Race time is set for 11:30 am.
