Hornet men fall to UMaine-farmington in season finale

Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's soccer team fell 3-0 to the University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday afternoon.  The Hornets conclude the 2019 campaign with an overal record of 1-14-1.  Lyndon was winless in eight North Atlantic Conference games.  UMaine-Farmington improves to 10-7 overall and evens their conference record at 4-4.

The visiting Beavers got on the scoreboard in the 14th minute, when Sawyer Deroche found Jon Randolph and Randolph was able to poke the ball past Lyndon goalkeeper Caleb Derbyshire (Barton, VT).  UMF made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute as Nick Marshall knocked the ball in the net following a scramble in front of the Lyndon goal.  Jimmy Pelletier converted Thomas Dupuy's corner kick in the 68th minute to complete the scoring.

UMaine-Farmington outshot Lyndon 23-8 and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.  The Beavers also controlled the ball throughout much of the contest, as they held a 60%-40% advantage in possession.  Derbyshire and Beaver keeper Jacob Statires both made four saves in goal.

Tuesday's game was the final contest for Hornet seniors Chris Trifilio (Williston, VT) and Jeremy Polonia (Lynn, MA).  Lyndon is expected to return 16 players in 2020.
