Lyndonville, VT - Dean College took control from the start and cruised to a 7-0 win over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Wednesday afternoon. The Bulldogs improve to 3-1 on the season while the Hornets fall to 0-3-1.
Dean jumped in front in the ninth minute when Kyle Lameiras took a pass from Luke Palmer and put it past Hornet goalkeeper Caleb Derbyshire (Barton, VT). The game stayed that way for most of the first half. Then the Bulldogs' Paulo Corriea found the net twice in the final four minutes of the half to sent Dean to intermission with a 3-0 lead.
Reinorf Kusi scored in the 52nd minute to build the Dean lead to 4-0. The Hornets then had their best opportunity to get on the board when they were awarded a penalty kick following a Dean foul in the box. Bulldog keeper Bryce Antoch turned away Lyndon's Sam Ognenoff (Brattleboro, VT), however, to keep the Hornets scoreless. Corriea then picked up his third goal of the game and Kusi and Lameiras each notched their second score to account for the final margin.
Dean outshot Lyndon 30-6 over the contest. The Bulldogs also earned nine corner kicks to four for the Hornets. Antoch earned the win in goal, making six stops before being relieved by Benjamin Vitale. Derbyshire stopped seven of the 14 shots on goal that he faced.
The Hornets continue their homestand with a non-conference matchup against Rivier University on Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
