A slow start saw the early score at 8-5 in favor of the Eagles at 13:30. The Hornets then began to pull away as they continued to force the Eagles into taking contested shots, going up 20-14 at 7:39.
Lyndon stretched it out to 29-20 on a three from Charles Correa, Jr. (Prospect Heights, R.I.) with 5:15 left in the half but Husson closed the gap to 31-27 thanks to seven points from Eli Itkin. A jumper from Eric Vargas (Lowell, Mass.) put Lyndon up 33-27 going into the break.
The Eagles scored seven straight points at the beginning of the second half to take the 34-33 lead, forcing a timeout from the Hornets. The hosts went on to score five more points before Vargas stopped the bleeding with a score in the lane.
Lyndon retook the lead after back-to-back treys from Correa, 43-42 with 12:52 on the clock. After trading layups, Lyndon was on top again and began to stretch the lead out as they continued to hit from downtown.
A three-point play from Xavier Colbert (Manassas, Va.) made it a three possession game with 1:01 to play. The Hornets hit two of four from the charity stripe down the stretch to hold on for the victory as a three from Raheem Anderson as time expired brought the score to 71-70.
Correa went 5-for-7 from behind the arc to finish with 21 points for the Hornets. Vargas added 16 points shooting 7-for-8 from the field while recording four assists, two steals, and zero turnovers. Colbert and Josiah Woodruff (Washington, D.C.) chipped in 11 points apiece.
Raheem Anderson had a game-high 25 points for the Eagles.
