Johnson, VT - The Lyndon State College women's volleyball team swept the Johnson State College Badgers for the second time this season on Tuesday night. The Hornets prevailed, 25-10, 25-18, 25-20, raising their overall record to 2-10. Johnson is still seeking their first win, falling to 0-12. The match was a non-conference contest for the North Atlantic conference rivals, as the Hornets also prevailed in the conference matchup a week ago.
The Hornets jumped out in front of the Badgers right from the get go. Holding an 8-4 lead in the opening set, junior Samantha Theriault (West Ossipee, NH) served six straight points to give Lyndon a double figure lead that would never be threatened.
The second set started as more of the same, as Lyndon again jumped out to an early advantage. This time, Johnson was able to rally, however, and a four point run highlighted by back to back kills by Kimberly Reville (Burke, NY) brought the Badgers back to within 11-8. That would be as close as Johnson would come, however, as the Hornets cruised to the set win.
The third set proved to be the most competitive of the night. Clinging to an 18-17 lead, Theriault, Faith Richard (Acushnet, MA), and Alexis Walker (Groton, CT) followed up a Johnson error with three straight kills to open up a little breathing room. The Hornets were able to go on and close out the set and the match.
Walker had a strong performance for Lyndon, as she recorded six kills, two service aces, and three digs. Richard added three kills and three assists. Reville was the Badgers' top performer, recording five kills and four digs.
Lyndon hosts a non-conference doubleheader against the College of Saint Joseph on Thursday evening. The first match will begin at 5:30 pm, with the nightcap to follow. Johnson goes to Green Mountain College for a quad match on Saturday.
