Plymouth, NH - The Lyndon State College women's tennis team closed out its season with a 9-0 loss at Plymouth State University on Thursday afternoon. The match was played at the Holderness School Tennis Courts. Plymouth raised their record to 9-3 on the season, while Lyndon finishes at 1-12.
Sophomore Savannah Jackson (Barre, VT) moved up to 1st singles for the match, but fell to Plymouth's Irene Kigugu (Concord, NH), 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Faibe Achinda (Hinesburg, VT), playing 4th singles, was the only other Lyndon entrant to win more than one game, as she fell to Plymouth's Lily O'Connor, 6-3, 6-0.
Jackson and Achinda are expected back for the Hornets next season, along with junior Melissa Calabro (New Canaan, CT), and freshmen Shanice Facey (Barre, VT), and Rachel Scholfield (Mahopac, NY). Lyndon will lose senior Nichole Jones (Lisbon Falls, ME), named earlier in the day to the North Atlantic Conference Sportsmanship Team, to graduation.
