Northfield, VT – The Lyndon State College women's soccer team came up on the short end of a 2-0 decision in a very rainy season finale at Norwich University on Tuesday night. The Hornets end their season with a record of 0-13-1, while Norwich finishes at 3-12.
Senior Mehgan McMullen (Northfield, VT) and freshman Sydney Rocheville (Salem, MA) each scored goals to lead the Cadets' offense in the victory as Norwich topped the Hornets in the final game of each team's season for the second straight year.
Rocheville gave Norwich a lead it would never relinquish in the 32nd minute with a goal from 25 yards out that beat Lyndon senior goalkeeper Johanna Sargent (Randolph, VT) over her head to the corner of the net. The goal was her fourth of the season. McMullen added the insurance tally in the 65th minute, chasing down a through ball by Nicole Hess (Wiesbaden, Germany) and powering a shot that glanced off freshman Hornet goalkeeper Victoria McCormack's (East Lyme, CT) hands, but ultimately rolled into the back of the net.
Norwich outshot Lyndon 33-10 for the game. McCormack made nine saves in relief for Lyndon, while Sargent made six in her final collegiate appearance. Freshman Katie Bishop-Manning (New York, NY) made six saves in goal for Norwich.
