Waterville, ME - The Lyndon State College women's soccer team battled Thomas College to a scoreless tie at the half before falling, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Lyndon to 0-11-1, and 0-7-1 in North Atlantic Conference play. Thomas improves to 4-9, 3-4 in the NAC.
Clean shots on goal were difficult to come by all afternoon. Lyndon's Sarah Gerry (South Hero, VT) had the only two shots on goal for either team in the opening half. Both were stopped by Terrier goalkeeper Kayla Gordon (Wiscasset, ME). None of the Terriers' seven shots in the opening half were on target.
Thomas broke the scoreless tie in the 48th minute. Makenzie Carlow (Winslow, ME) took a through ball from Taznae Fubler (Smiths, Bermuda) and chipped it over Hornet gaolkeper Victoria McCormack (East Lyme, CT). The Terriers added another score in the 68th minute, as Nikki Bradstreet (Topsham, ME) took a pass from Taylor Peno (Hooksett, NH) and put it past McCormack into the left side of the goal.
Thomas outshot Lyndon, 17-4 for the contest. Each team only managed to put three shots on goal, however. Gordon made three saves, all on shots by Gearry on her way to a clean sheet. McCormack only recorded a single save.
Lyndon returns home for the final time this season next Saturday. The Hornets will host Johnson State College at 1:00 pm. Senior Day festivities will preceed the match, as Lyndon seniors Jhanna Sargent (Randolph, VT), Kiya DeWitt (Pittsburg, NH), Rose Wilson (Marshfield, VT), Anna Gear (Fort Meyers, FL), Heidi Neuhausser (Unity, NH), and Sarah Gerry will be honored. Thomas will host St. Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday evening.
