Hornet women fall to defending National Champion Amherst in season opener

Amherst, MA - The Lyndon State College women's basketball team opened its 2017-18 season on Saturday evening by taking on the defending NCAA Division III National Champions, Amherst College in the opening round of Amherst's Tip-Off Tournament.  The host Mammoths didn't skip a beat from their undefeated championship season as they ran away from the Hornets for an 81-38 win.  The game was the season opener for Amherst as well.

Amherst jumped out to a 20-9 lead after the first quarter and were never seriously threateded.  The lead grew to 42-14 at halftime and 63-33 after three quarters enroute to the final score.

Cam Hendricks (Glastonbury, CT) led the way for the Mammoths with 20 points.  Hannah Fox (Plymouth Meeting, PA) added 16 points and six rebounds, while Maeve McNamara (Arlington, MA) chipped in with 14 points and three assists.  Senior Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, VT) led the way for Lyndon with 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Hornets return to action tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm in the Tournament's consolation round.  Amherst advances to the 3:00 pm championship game.
