CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – In non-conference action Thursday night, the Lyndon State College women's basketball team stood victorious, 71-62, over host Pine Manor College.
Lyndon's Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.) led the way with a double-double of 26 points and 14 rebounds while adding five blocks. Faith Richard (Acushnet, Mass.) chipped in 13 points and Alissa Mitchell (Milton, N.H.) provided six points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists.
Erica Jones led Pine Manor with 20 points, four rebounds, and seven assists. Taylor Ingram-Martin recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Hornets outscored the Gators 20-14 in the first quarter for the early lead.
The second quarter was much tighter but the Hornets again had the edge as they picked up 12 points against 11 from the hosts. The Hornets went into the break with a seven point cushion at 32-25.
The scoring ramped up in the third stanza as Lyndon built the advantage up to 15, their largest of the game, with 3:46 on the clock. Pine Manor battled back, cutting the lead back down to seven before the end of the period, 52-45.
Momentum carried over to the fourth quarter for the Gators as they were able to grab the lead at 6:12 and go up by three on a layup from Tiana Jordan with 5:08 to play. The teams then traded baskets before the Hornets went on an 8-0 run to go up 66-61 at the 1:17 mark. The Hornets went on to go 5-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 41 seconds to expand the lead to 71-62.
Lyndon (6-8, 3-5 NAC) goes to Johnson State College on Saturday to return to conference play for a 3:00 p.m. tip.
