NEWTON, Mass. – The Lyndon State College women's basketball team suffered their first loss Saturday afternoon in overtime at Lasell College, 64-58.
Gabrielle Foy (Wilton, Maine) finished with 22 points to lead the Hornets. Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.) recorded her second double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Alissa Mitchell (Milton, N.H.) grabbed game-high 15 rebounds.
Morgan Church (New London, N.H.) led Lasell with 22 points and 11 rebounds while Liz Bougie (Sanford, Maine) added 21 points and 11 rebounds.
In a hot start for the home team, Lasell jump to an early 12-4 lead in the first quarter with Church and Hoffman splitting four points apiece in the stretch. The Hornets used 16 points in the second quarter to trail Lasell by just seven points as both teams headed into the locker room for halftime, 27-20.
Foy exploded for 16 points in the second half for Lyndon, converting on all three freebies along with 10 points from the field and three from downtown. A 12-0 run for the visitors ignited a late-game comeback as a three-pointer from Faith Richard (Acushnet, Massachusetts) gave Lyndon its first lead of the game, 49-48. A three-pointer from Hoffman would regain the hosts lead, 54-51, but foul trouble plagued Lasell during the final seconds of regulation as Foy converted on three final free throws to send both teams into OT.
The Lasers (2-1) will play a final road contest before Thanksgiving break on Tuesday, November 22 at Framingham State at 6:00 p.m., while the Hornets (1-1) return to play on November 19 at Rhode Island College. Tip-off for Lyndon is set for 6:00 p.m.
