Hornets Upended By Chargers

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – Despite a strong start by the Lyndon State Women's Basketball Team (1-5, 0-1), Colby-Sawyer (3-2, 2-0) added another conference win to their record Saturday afternoon in Stannard Gymnasium by a score of 53-44.

Colby Sawyer drained two threes to start the game, until Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, VT) banked in two jump-shots.  Lyndon's Victoria Carlson (East Haven, Conn.) cashed in 7 points helping them take the lead at the end of the first quarter, 15-8.

With the start of the second quarter, Colby-Sawyer was fueled by Jessica Shenkel (Sharon, Mass.), draining the first six points until Allison Brown (Monroe, NH) dropped in a jump shot off of an assist from Hodge.  Colby-Sawyer was able to come within four, ending the first half 25-21.

Outscored by Colby-Sawyer 20-10 in the third quarter, Lyndon found themselves down for the first time as the quarter came to a close at 41-35 in favor of the Chargers.

Lyndon was unable to catch back up in the final ten minutes, dropping their first conference game of the season.

Shenkel led Colby-Sawyer with 11 points, 5 rebounds.  Kristin Ellis (South Easton, Mass,) pitched in six points and nine rebounds. Katie McCarthy (Mansfield, Mass) added six points and a career-high eight rebounds. 

Lyndon was led by a double-double from Hodge who registered 15 points and brought down 16 rebounds. Aimee Thompson (Barnet, VT) added eight points and nine rebounds.

Lyndon continues conference play when they travel to Green Mountain on Thursday, December 10th with a 5:30PM start.

Colby-Sawyer hosts a match-up against Norwich University on Tuesday at 7:00PM in New London, NH.
