LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – Lyndon's Women's Basketball Team hosted Norwich University Thursday night in Stannard Gymnasium with Norwich getting their third win of the season in a 69-37 victory.
Both teams were evenly matched in the first quarter swapping baskets. With fourteen seconds remaining, Abby Salvadore (Portsmouth, N.H.) was fouled by Norwich's Emily Oliver, making one of the two free throws, giving Lyndon the lead 11-10.
Lyndon was able to start the second quarter with a pair of layups by Faith Richard (Acushnet, Mass.) and Victoria Carlson (East Haven, Conn.). Norwich then went on an 18-0 run until Lyndon was able to get back on the board with a foul shot by Shannon Cookson (Plainfield, Vt.) ending the quarter 28-16.
Going into the second half, Norwich cashed in nine points before Lyndon could get a three-pointer to fall by Richard. The quarter ended Norwich up 46-28.
Lyndon could only answer nine points to Norwich's twenty-three throughout the fourth quarter. Fatigue, foul trouble, and a low shooting percentage hurt Lyndon's comeback chances.
Both Vanessa Fleury, 19 points, 11 rebounds, and Arianna Harrison, 10 points, 15 rebounds, invested a double-double for Norwich.
Richard, eight points, and Brittney LaFreniere (Randolph, Vt.), seven points, led Lyndon offensively. Salvadore pitched in seven points and seven rebounds.
Lyndon will face off against Wheelock College in a home contest on Saturday, November 21st at 2:00PM before going on Thanksgiving break. Norwich will host Mount Holyoke at 1:00PM Saturday.
