REDLANDS, Calif. - The University of Redlands women's basketball team opened the 2013-14 season by cruising to a 75-33 win over Lyndon in Friday's opening game of the 2013 Lee Fulmer Memorial Tip-Off Classic in Currier Gym.
After the Hornets' Emily Gray (Quincy, Mass.) scored the first basket of the contest, the Bulldogs fired off 18 consecutive points to take a sizeable lead and never looked back.
Redlands impressed with a well-rounded offense that saw seven different Bulldogs contribute points in the first 10 minutes, before Gray successfully converted another shot midway through the period.
The Maroon and Gray stayed hot and finished the first frame with an incredible advantage of 38-9 after shooting 41.2% from the field. The Bulldogs' stifling defense held the opponents to a 4-for-16 effort while forcing 10 turnovers.
During the second half, Redlands utilized its entire roster of healthy players en route to the solid win.
Senior forward Brittany Oster tallied a season-opening double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She converted seven of her nine shots and pulled in five offensive boards on the night.
Junior transfer guard Kameran Dage made her Bulldog debut a memorable one by adding 10 points as the only other double-digit scorer.
Junior guard Kaity Lykins returned to action for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign, registering six points, five rebounds, five steals, and three assists for the Maroon and Gray.
Sarah Cornell (Lyndonville, Vt.) had six points to lead the Hornets (0-1) and tied Amanda Martin (East Thetford, Vt.) with a team-high three rebounds. Chelsea Bagley (Wallingford, Vt.) had two assists in the loss.
