LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Despite an early second-half drought, the Castleton women's basketball team managed to hold off Lyndon long enough to record a 74-62 victory.
The Spartans led 46-21 at halftime, but went cold early in the second half, scoring only two points in the first 8:22 of the period. After the Hornets slashed the deficit to 48-38 with 11:38 to play, Castleton regained its composure and pulled away to its eighth win of the season overall.
Vanessa Powers came off the bench to score 21 points and grab 10 rebounds for the Spartans and Tarryn Bolognani tallied 16 points. Christine Jaques had 10 points in the win while Katie Hoxsie had eight assists and three steals.
Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt.) had 16 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks for Lyndon and Abby Fadden (North Haverhill, N.H.) added 19 points and four assists. Shauna Buck (Newport Center, Vt.) had three steals in the loss.
