Consistent Scoring Boosts Husson Past Hornets

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – In a doubleheader North Atlantic Conference softball matchup, Husson University (8-18, 4-4 NAC) took both games, 12-2 and 13-0, over Lyndon State College (2-16, 0-4 NAC).

Game 1

The first game started off with a run by the Eagles' Lyndsay Merrill after a single from Sami Cyr.  Shelby Sheridan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) evened it up in the bottom of the first, scoring as Julia Kearney grounded out to first base.

At the top of the second, Merrill hit a double, plating Olivia Smith and Mallory Conary.  On a double from Brandi Surridge (East Burke, Vt.), Brooke Dolloff (Rumford, Maine) scored to bring the Hornets within one of the Eagles. 

The Eagles would see nine more runs within the five inning game, while the Hornets were held scoreless, finishing the game 12-2.

Alannah Healy (5-12) completed the game for the Eagles, gaining the win in the circle, allowing eight hits, one earned run, and fanning four Hornets.

Sheridan (2-7) took the loss with eight hits, five earned runs, and striking out two in 2.1 innings.  Surridge relieved Sheridan for 1.2 innings while Dolloff finished out the game in the top of the fifth.

Lily Stinehour (Lunenberg, Vt.), Sheridan, and Dolloff each recorded two hits with Sheridan and Dolloff earning one run each.

Game 2

In another five inning game, the Hornets were held scoreless with the Eagles gaining the 13-0 victory.

The Eagles' Healy and Courtney MacIntyre (2-3) teamed up in the circle to keep the Hornets off the bases for the length of game two. 

Husson scored one run in the first inning, two in the second, and five in both the third and fourth inning.  The Hornets were able to hold the Eagles scoreless in the fifth inning, ending the game 13-0.

MacIntyre gained the win pitching three innings and striking out four batters.

Kiya DeWitt (Pittsburg, N.H.) took the loss allowing nine hits, eight earned runs, and one strike out. 

Lyndon will travel to Johnson State College for a doubleheader on Tuesday with the first game starting at 3:00 p.m.
