CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lyndon State College softball team rounded out their Florida trip Monday with losses to St. Thomas University (STU) and Lourdes University.
The Hornets started the day with a 14-2 (5 innings) loss to St. Thomas University.
STU started their scoring early as they plated six runs off of three hits in the first inning and added another four in the second inning.
However, STU added one run in the bottom of the inning and three more in the fourth the take the game 14-2.
The Hornets finished the spring trip with a tough 13-2 (5 innings) loss to Lourdes University.
The Gray Wolves broke the game open in the top of the second inning, with seven runs on six hits. The Gray Wolves added three more runs in the top of the third before the Hornets answered with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Kiya DeWitt led off the frame for Lyndon with a walk before being moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Hannah Choiniere. A throwing error on Ashlynn Royce's groundball to short stop allowed DeWitt to make it home for a 10-1 score heading into the fourth.
After being held scoreless in the fourth, Lourdes tacked on three runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Down 13-1, Lyndon's Brooke Dolloff singled to start off the bottom of the inning. Dolloff advanced to second base on DeWitt's ground out. Two batters later, Royce singled through the left side of the infield to drive in Dolloff to finish the scoring for the Hornets.
Lyndon (0-10) will return to play on March 26th for a doubleheader at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
