Shoddy defense dooms Hornets

HENNIKER, N.H. – Lyndon committed 13 errors on the day as New England extended its winning streak to six games by sweeping visiting Lyndon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Saturday taking game one 11-3 and game two by a score of 12-6.

In game one the Pilgrims trailed 3-0 heading into the home half of the fifth inning before exploding for 11 runs in the fifth en route to the 11-3.

Leading the way for NEC in game one was Maranda Johnson who finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs driven in and a run scored. NEC's Colleen Holt and Gina Drappi finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs driven in and two runs scored each.

Leading the way for Lyndon was Kiya DeWitt (Pittsburg, N.H.) who was 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and Katie Davis (North Haverhill, N.H.), who took the loss, was 2-for-2 with a double

Davis allowed seven earned runs on 12 hits while striking out five and walking one. Lyndon committed five errors in the contest, including four that occurred in the decisive fifth inning.

Picking up the win on the mound was Deb Mazzeo who allowed one earned run on six hits.
In game two NEC plate five runs in the second and when on to score two in the fifth and three in the sixth on their way to the eventual 12-6 victory.  

NEC's Rebecca Allen was 3-for-4 in game two with three runs driven in and a run scored.  Teammate Shawnie Clark was also 3-for-4 with a run driven in and three runs scored.  

Lyndon's Shelby Sheridan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in game two with two runs scored and a run driven in.  DeWitt and Dakota Crane (Central, S.C.)  each notched two hits as well for the Hornets.

Davis took the loss in Game 2 as well allowing three earned runs on 11 hits while fanning nine and walking three. Lyndon committed eight errors in the contest.

Mazzeo picked up the game two win on the mound for the Pilgrims allowing four earned runs and striking out eight batters.
