Surging Hornets sweep New England

HENNIKER, N.H. – Lyndon swept a twin bill from New England College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action, taking game one 13-2 and then winning game two by a score of 9-1.

With the two wins the Hornets improve to 7-17 overall and even their NAC record at 6-6.  The two losses drop the Pilgrims to 9-15 on the season and 1-9 in conference play.

Lyndon would open the scoring in the top half of the first inning of game one as Jena Finnegan (Keeseville, N.Y.) would hit a two-out single to center field and come around to score on a triple to right off the bat of Jillian Emery (Johnson, Vt.).  Emery and Taylor Young (Lowell, Mass.) who reached on a walk would then both score on an infield error.

NEC would get two runs back in the home half of the first as Alexandra Swanson would hit a two-out single to left field and score on a double to right field by Rebecca Allen. Allen would then come across on an error by Lyndon's outfield.

Lyndon would tack on an additional run in the second inning as Brooke Dolloff (Rumford, Maine) would open the inning with a double to right field and score on a single by Shelby Sheridan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.). The Hornets would add eight runs in the fourth, highlighted by a grand slam by Dakota Crane (Central, S.C.) and tack on an additional score in the fifth thanks to a two-out solo home run by Emery.

The Hornets would shut down the Pilgrim offense over the final four innings of play eventually capturing the victory.  Picking up the win in the circle for Lyndon was Katie Davis (North Haverhill, N.H.) who gave up one earned run on six hits.

The two teams would battle through the first couple innings scoreless in game two before Lyndon would break the drought plating two runs in the third inning.  Lyndon's Ashley Barski (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) would open the inning with a single and come around to score on a misplayed throw.

Crane would then hit a fly ball that would score Sheridan who reached on a single and Finnegan, who reached on a double to right center would score on a single up the middle by Jillian Emery.

Lyndon would plate four additional runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-out two-run homerun off the bat of Shelby Sheridan.

Alexandra Swanson would get the Pilgrims on the board in the sixth inning as she would homer to center field. The Hornets would get the run back and add another then hold the Pilgrims scoreless in the home half of the seventh en route to the 9-1 victory.

Davis would pick up the win in game two as well allowing just the one earned run on seven hits.

Lyndon's Sheridan finished game two 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs batted in and two runs scored.  NEC's Kiley Williams singled twice for the Pilgrims in game two.
