PSU sweeps pair from Lyndon

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Bekah Jackson went 5-for-8 with two doubles, a triple and two home runs as Plymouth State swept a non-conference doubleheader from Lyndon by scores of 9-1 and 5-1 at D&M Park.

Jackson cracked a double, triple and homer in the first game, highlighting an 11-hit Panther attack as PSU won the contest in six innings.  She added a double and a home run in the nightcap as PSU pulled away with two runs in the fifth and sixth innings.  Jackson remains red-hot and she was also 7-for-8 on Tuesday in a doubleheader at Castleton State College.

The Panthers scored runs in five of the six innings in the opener.  Jackson led off the PSU first inning with a home run to left field, and junior Sam Hebert smacked a two-run double to left in the third inning to make it 3-0.

Lyndon got on the board in the fourth inning on a run-scoring single by Katie Davis (North Haverhill, N.H.), but PSU stretched the lead to 6-1 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Jackson drilled a two-run triple to left field and came around to score on a Lyndon error.

The Panthers put the game away with two more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, as Julie Royer contributed a sacrifice fly and junior Taylor Mancini ended the game with an RBI single to right.

Whitney Roberts picked up the win (7-3) with a complete-game effort for PSU, allowing just one run on four hits while fanning six.

Jillian Emery (Johnson, Vt.) collected two hits in the opener for Lyndon, including a double.

PSU took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the nightcap when Jackson reached on an error, stole second and came all the way around to score on a sacrifice bunt by Royer.  The Hornets pulled even in the top of the fifth when Jen Lynch (Portland, Maine) drew a bases-load walk with one out.

Nora Galvin, who earned the win in relief (5-5) with three scoreless innings, got the next two batters out on a strikeout and a pop-up to prevent further damage.

The Panthers pulled away with two-run rallies in the fifth and sixth innings. Roberts and Shannon Murphy produced RBI singles in the sixth, and the seventh inning included a lead-off homer from Jackson and an RBI single by Vanessa Przybylo.

Roberts finished with three hits in the nightcap for PSU, while Jackson, Mancini and Przybylo had two hits each.  The five Lyndon hits came from five different players, with Meghan Gadapee (Littleton, N.H.) connecting on a double.
