LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Plymouth State upped its overall record to 6-9 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Lyndon in the Hornets' home opener. The Panthers won Game 1 by a score of 13-0 in five innings, and earned an 11-4 win in six innings in Game 2.
In the opener, Plymouth decided the issue early, plating 11 runs in the top of the second to take a commanding 12-0 lead. Allie Luisi's three-run double highlighted the uprising and was supported by run-scoring doubles off the bats of teammates Kortney Nedeau and Andrea Pydynkowski. Nedeau, Pydynkowski, Rachel Pothier, Alyssa Marini and Heather Blase had two hits each for the winners who pounded out 14 hits in the contest.
Ali Keith went the distance to get the victory allowing no runs on two hits while striking out seven and walking one. Katelyn Willey (Lancaster, N.H.) took the loss for Lyndon. Erica Parker (South Royalton, Vt.) and Jackyn Toney (Brattleboro, Vt.) had one hit each for the Hornets.
In the nightcap, Lyndon took a 2-1 lead after one inning of play but the lead proved to be short-lived as the Panthers plated four runs in their next at bat and cruised to the win. Pydynkowski had two hits for Plymouth while Natalia Shams (Swampscott, Mass.) and Michelle Wilcox (Sheldon, Vt.) had each for the Hornets.
Dom Heres went six innings to the victory allowing two earned runs on two hits while fanning four and walking two. She was supported by three outstanding defensive plays by Blase, who robbed three Lyndon hitters of base hits. For the Hornets, Shams went all six innings and was credited with the loss.
