LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — The Castleton State College softball team swept a doubleheader from Lyndon State College by scores of 14-2 and 5-4 in North Atlantic Conference action.
In the opening game, Castleton's Hilary Bemis tossed a complete game, giving up two runs on four hits, while striking out seven and walked only two. Hannah Greene had three hit games for the Spartans while Caylee Fleury, Megan Blongy, Stepehanie Wright and Sarah Flore added two each. Kathy Kline (Coventry, R.I.), Jo Locke (St. Johnsbury, Vt.), Katelyn Willey (Lancaster, N.H.) and Jaclyn Toney (Brattleboro, Vt.) had one hit each for Lady Hornets. Natalia Shams (Swampscott, Mass.) took the loss.
In the nightcap, Lyndon held the lead for most of the game, but Castleton tied the score at 4-4 in the fifth before Julie Benzenburg's sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning decided the issue.
Bemis collected her second win of the day in relief of starter Kristy Jurczak. Katelyn Willey (Lancaster, N.H.) threw a complete game for Lyndon in taking the loss. Heather LaValley (Northfield, Vt.) had two-hits for Lyndon.
