BRUNSWICK, ME – The men's cross country team opened the season with a fourth place team finish behind New England powerhouses WPI and Bowdoin College, and conference foe UMF at the Bowdoin College Invitational.
Senior Tim LaRoche (South Hadley, MA) began his season by pacing the men's team in 28:19 over the 8K course. LaRoche was followed by senior Josh Hopmans (Hinsdale, MA) in a time of 28:51. Junior Ayan Cole (Lyndonville, VT) covered the course in a time of 29:27. Freshman Sam Darbey (Tyringham, MA) and senior Dylan Robichaud (Orange, MA) rounded out the scoring for the Hornets in times of 30:05 and 30:13 respectively.
"Overall, based on where we're at in the season and our training, I feel comfortable with the men's results,' said Coach Ummer. "While we had good showings from Tim, Ayan, and Sam, our focus is on October 31st. We'll be much stronger by then."
The Hornet's next race is on October 3rd when they face the nationally ranked Middlebury Panthers at the Vermont State meet in Johnson, VT.
