Dartmouth, MA - Lyndon State College senior Joshua Thibault (Glover, VT) set a new school record in the javelin on Saturday, one of the highlights as the Hornets competed at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Corsair Classic.
Thibault broke his own school record, throwing a with a distance of 38.73 meters while finishing in 14th place. He also finished 13th in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.11 meters, and finished 27th in the 100 meters with a time of 12.53 seconds.
Hunter Torrey (Newbury, VT) finished 21st in the 100 meters with a time of 12.28 seconds. In the 200 meters, he also finished 21st with a time of 25.16 seconds. He also competed in the Long Jump, jumping a distance of 5.01 meters and finishing in 14th place.
Robert Denton III (Providence, RI) threw a personal best in the Javelin with a distance of 32.27 meters, finishing in 21st place. He also threw Discus and Shot Put with distances of 20.77 and 7.78 meters respectively, while finishing in 15th and 21st place.
Benjamin Cornell (Burrillville, RI) ran in the 1500 and 800 meters. He finished in 16th and 11th place respectively with times of 4:37.15 and 2:09.35.
Matt Francis (Freeport, ME) debuted in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:01.31 while finishing in 7th place.
Hornet coach Hayden Bunnell remarked "We had some good performances and improvements on the men's side, but we still have a lot more to work on, and with the hope of using the track next week, we will more likely see those improvements."
The Hornets return to competition next Saturday at the Mount Holyoke College Spring Fling Invitational. The meet is scheduled to start at 10:00 am.
