Bennington, VT- The Lyndon State College men's tennis team dropped a North Atlantic Conference match to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Sunday afternoon. The shorthanded Hornets had to forfeit two flights and fell, 8-1, at the Bennington Tennis Center. Lyndon falls to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the NAC, while MCLA imporves to 1-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference.
The Hornets were forced to forfeit sixth singles and third doubles, enabling MCLA to start the day with a pair of piints before a serve was hit.
The Trailblazers captured both first and second doubles. The first flight match was very tightly contested, as the Trailblazers' Aaron Goldsmith (Mattapan, MA) and Jared Freeman (Rotterdam, NY) eeked out a hard fought 8-6 win over the Lyndon tandem of Jake LaCerda (Gray, ME) and Neal Mulligan (Marshfield, VT).
Mulligan captured Lyndon's only point of the day, defeating Freeman 6-3, 6-2 at second singles. LaCerda dropped a very tightly contested first singles match to Goldsmith, 7-5, 4-6, 7-10. The Trailblazers captured the other three singles flights in straight sets.
The Hornets and Trailblazers will meet again on Wednesday at Lyndon for a non-conference match. Play begins at 3:30 pm.
