JOHNSON, VT. – The Lyndon State College men's tennis team grasped their second win of the season over Johnson State College taking the match 5-4 in North Atlantic Conference play.
The Badgers go to 1-11 (0-5 NAC) on the season while the Hornets move to 2-9 (1-4 NAC).
Lyndon took a 2-1 advantage after doubles. Tyler Hall (Keene, N.H.) and Jake LaCerda (Gray, Maine) grasped an 8-2 win in first flight singles over Gerrit Lane and Richie Perez, while Dylan Cherko (Manchester, Conn.) and Neal Mulligan (Marshfield, Vt.) bested Alex Harcourt and Benjamin Holl 8-4 in the second slot. Brady Rainville (Danville, Vt.) and Cory Arruda (Dartmouth, Mass.) closed out doubles with an 8-2 victory over Ben Seward (Bennington, Vt.) and Ken Niemann (Au Sable Fork, N.Y.).
The teams split singles play, with each team taking three. Lane picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win in first singles over Hall, while Lyndon's LaCerda took a 6-4, 6-1 victory in second flight singles. Cherko lost in his first set 6-1 against Perez but fought back and took the next two sets 7-6 (8-6 tiebreaker), 6-2.
Mulligan bested Rainville 6-2, 6-4 in fourth singles. Holl and Fogg ended the day with victories in fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
The Hornets host Thomas College on Saturday, April 22 at 1:00 p.m. to finish out NAC play.
The Badgers will visit Green Mountain on Saturday, April 22 for a 1:00 p.m. NAC match.
