DORCHESTER, Mass. – The Lyndon State College men's tennis team picked up their first win of the 2017 season with a 6-3 victory over Wheelock College Sunday evening.
The Hornets took No. 2 and No. 3 doubles as Michael Sigsbury (Pownal, Vt.) and Dylan Cherko (Manchester, Conn.) topped Amos Jackson and Brody Niemann 8-2 while Ken Niemann (Au Sable Forks, N.Y.) and Ben Seward (Bennington, Vt.) downed Tyler Maheu and Zac Zelinski 8-5.
Hall and Hedayaty went three sets in the top singles flight with Hall coming out on top 6-7, 7-6, 10-7. In the second flight, Brown gave the Wildcats their second win with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over LaCerda. The Hornets picked up wins in the third, fourth, and fifth flights to seal the victory. Sigsbury and Cherko each posted 6-0, 6-0 victories over Jackson and Brody Niemann, respectively. Ken Niemann picked up his first career singles victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Maheu. Zelinski and Seward pushed the sixth flight to three sets with Zelinski pulling it out for the Wildcats, 6-7, 7-6, 10-8.
Lyndon (1-3) looks to start conference action Saturday, April 1 at Green Mountain with a 1:00 p.m. start time.
Wheelock (0-4) begins conference play Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Regis College.
