STOWE, Vt. – The Lyndon State College men's tennis team dropped a non-conference match with Green Mountain College 7-2 at the Topnotch Resort in Stowe Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles took all three doubles matches as Truman Cressey (Grantham, N.H.) and Kei Sako (Aichi-ken, Japan) turned away Tyler Hall (Keene, N.H.) and Jake LaCerda (Gray, Maine) 8-5 in the top flight. Eric Wade (Rutland, Vt.) and Pierce Caldwell (Los Altos, Calif.) edged Michael Sigsbury (Pownal, Vt.) and Dylan Cherko (Manchester, Conn.) 8-7 in the second flight while Javier Lugris (Madrid, Spain) and Daisuke Kon (Aichi, Japan) topped Ken Niemann (Au Sable Forks, N.Y.) and Ben Seward 8-0.
Hall gave the Hornets a win in No. 1 singles over Cressey 8-6. Sako and LaCerda were neck and neck with Sako taking the match 8-7 (7-3) for the Eagles in No. 2 singles. Sigsbury recorded the other win for the Hornets, 8-2 over Wade in No. 3 singles. The Eagles took victories in the final three flights as Caldwell topped Cherko 8-2, Lugris downed Niemann 8-0, and Kon topped Seward 8-4.
The Hornets (0-3) return to action against Wheelock Sunday, March 26 at the Sportsmen's Tennis Club in Dorchester, Mass. At 5:00 p.m.
The Eagles (2-1) travel to Norwich on Saturday, March 25 for a 1:00 p.m. start.
