Hornet Men Victorious at Home

The Lyndon State Men’s Soccer Team opened their season with a home victory over the Vermont Technical College Knights.

It was a rainy afternoon that caused slick conditions on the pitch as in the first five minutes of action Lyndon’s Josh Thibault was able to trickle in a goal past Knights goalie Jonathan Alvin who appeared to slip on wet ground to put the Hornets up 1-0 at 4:43 of the first half. Thibault would add another goal at 15:09 of the first half and he finished with 2 goals and 4 points on the day. The Hornets got to halftime with a 4-0 lead with 2 more goals scored by Devin Cowan and Matthew Townsend.

The second half would see four more in the back of the net for the Hornets.  Ryan Paulino started the second half scoring burying one into the twine at 48:58 to put the home team Hornets up 5-0. The next 3 goals came from the feet of Will Martin, Abukar Hassan and Eric Remick.

It was a trio of first time college goals for Will Martin, Matthew Townsend, and Ryan Paulino. Paulino also had an assist in the game. The Hornets came out of the rain and the day with an 8-0 season opener victory.

The Hornets will be back for some home cooking against U-Maine Presque Isle getting underway at noon on Saturday, September 9.
