Castine, ME - The Lyndon Hornets men's soccer team battled Maine Maritime Academy to a 1-1 double overtime draw in Sunday's North Atlantic Conference matchup. The outcome leaves Lyndon at 4-3-1 overall and 1-3-1 in NAC play, while Maine Maritime moves to 2-5-2 overall and 1-3-2 in conference.
After 40 scoreless minutes, the Mariners were able to break through first, when Gerald Aquino (Montville, CT) was able to lob a rebound past Lyndon goalkeeper Matt LaClair (Beekmantown, NY). That sent Maine Maritime into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
With the Mariners trying to hang on and just over three minutes remaining in regulation, Lyndon was awarded a corner kick, their only one of the match. Jose Darias (Sudbury, MA) delivered the corner, and Dylan Jacobs (Braintree, VT) was able to put home the loose ball that ensued to tie the game.
The Mariners outshot the Hornets, 5-1, in the two extra sessions, but neither team was able to break through, resulting in the tie.
For the match, Maine Maritime outshot Lyndon, 18-9. LaClair made six saves, while Mariner keeper Joshua Reeks (Bedford, NH) was credited with three saves.
Lyndon will host Southern Vermont College in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday at 3:30 pm. Maine Maritime travels to Bates College for a Tuesday evening matchup.
