LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – Six wins in one season. Seven goals in a single game by one player (Kevin McCarthy). Another addition to that list of firsts for the Lyndon State College men's lacrosse program this season, first home playoff game.
After finishing the season with a 5-3 conference record, the Hornets have earned the No. 4 seed in the North Atlantic Conference playoffs. With that No. 4 seed comes the privilege of hosting the quarterfinal game. Saturday at 2:00 p.m. the Hornets will host No. 5 seed Maine Maritime Academy at the Varsity Athletic Field.
Less than two weeks ago, the Hornets and Mariners clashed on the same field. The Hornets came away with a 16-12 victory, a key game in the final standings since both teams finished the season at 5-3 in the conference. That win gave the Hornets the tie-breaker over the Mariners and the opportunity to host Saturday's game.
With a semifinal matchup with Castleton University awaiting the victor, the Hornets hope to add another first to the list this Saturday, first playoff win.
