FARMINGTON, Maine – The Lyndon State College men's lacrosse team toppled the University of Maine at Farmington 26-8 in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference matchup.
Kevin McCarthy (West Sayville, N.Y.) posted a game-high seven goals while adding three assists. Shea Jones (Hull, Mass.) added five goals and five assists. Spencer Aubin (Sharon, Mass.), Ian Pelkey (Milton, Vt.), and Zachary Carey (Exeter, N.H.) contributed three goals apiece.
Cameron McAllister netted four goals and dished an assist while Travis St. Pierre added three goals.
Caleb Carr made five saves in net for the Beavers in the loss.
The Hornets picked up their first goal in less than two minutes but the Beavers answered with 11:36 to play in the first. The Hornets then tallied four straight to end the quarter up 5-1.
After the teams traded goals, the Beavers closed the gap to 6-3 with a goal at the 5:21 mark of the second quarter. The Hornets followed with 13 unanswered goals over a span of 15 minutes, including four from McCarthy. The Beavers stopped the bleeding with two straight goals near the end of the third quarter but still trailed 19-5 heading into the final quarter.
All three of Carey's goals would come in the fourth quarter as the Hornets put in seven during the final frame. McAllister netted two of his four in the final quarter with the game finishing with a score of 26-8.
The Hornets finish the regular season 6-7 overall and 5-3 in the NAC, clinching a spot in the conference playoffs. Seeding will be announced Monday, April 25 with quarterfinal games taking place Saturday, April 30.
