CASTLETON, Vt. – The Lyndon State College men's lacrosse team suffered a 16-0 loss to conference foe Castleton University Wednesday afternoon.
Castleton broke through with 10:52 left in the first quarter on a goal by Jason Sedell. Siegel followed with a goal less than three minutes later and Isaac Devoid pushed the Spartan lead to 3-0 later in the quarter.
Nik Rancourt extended the advantage to four goals 1:09 into the second and Castleton led 7-0 midway through the period. Connor Kelly, Stone and Tom Pardew each scored once in the final four minutes of the period to lead 10-0 at the half.
The Spartans scored three times in the opening 1:09 of the third quarter for a 13-0 advantage and in the fourth, Colin Clark, Matt Levins and Stone provided the final 16-0 margin.
Shea Jones (Hull, Mass.) got off seven shots and recorded four ground balls for the Hornets. Justin Mosher (Salem, N.H.) also picked up four ground balls and added three shots. Shane Morin (Salem, N.H.) took the loss in net making nine saves in 30 minutes. Marcus Bessette (Pembroke, N.H.) also made nine saves while working the second half in net.
The Spartans had 12 different players score in the contest, led by Sam Siegel with three goals and five ground balls. Zach Devoid and Ryan Stone each recorded two goals. Kyle Lutinski dished off three assists while picking up four ground balls. Peyton Faasse picked up six ground balls and won 7 of 9 faceoffs.
Romello Lindsey recorded the win for the Spartans in net, making two saves in the first half. Brandon Myron relieved Lindsey for the second half, making six saves.
The Hornets (0-6, 0-3 NAC) host Thomas Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for another conference matchup.
Castleton (6-4, 3-0 NAC) travels to play Husson on Saturday.
