Castine, ME - The Maine Mritime Academy Mariners pulled away from Lyndon State College in the second half of Saturday's men's basketball contest and came away with an 84-61 victory. The Mariners improve to 5-18 on the season and 4-12 in North Atlantic Conference play, while the Hornets fall to 2-20 on the season and 2-14 in the NAC.
Adam Richardson (Bradley, ME) led Maine Maritime with 24 points while Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, ME) added 17 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Brendan Newcomb (Holden, ME) tallied 12 points for the hosts. Zach Knowlton (Franconia, NH) led the Hornets with a career high 21 points, connecting on seven three-point goals. Ricky Shuford (Pratville, AL) added 17 points for the Hornets and handed out four assists.
Maine Maritime connected on 33 of 60 shots (55.0%), including 7 of 19 (36.8%) from distance. Lyndon only found the mark on 23 of 70 attempts (32.9%) and only 10 of 38 (26.3%) from behind the arc. The Hornets held a 45-35 rebounding advantage, but turned the ball over 23 times, resulting in 28 Mariner points. Maine Maritime committed 17 turnovers resulting in 17 points. As a team, the Mariners recorded assists on 24 of 33 field goals, while the Hornets were only credited with assists on 13 of 23.
Lyndon will travle to Colby-Sawyer College for a 7:30 NAC tip-off on Thursday. Maine Maritime will host Thomas on Wednesday.
