Williams Makes Profesional Debut

Jeff Williams '17 participated in a professional baseball tryout on Monday, June 19 in Georgetown, DE and was quickly snapped up by the Old Orchard Beach Surge of the Empire Pro Baseball League, an independent professional baseball league in New England. Williams is the number four pitcher in the starting rotation.

Williams performed well in his professional baseball debut June 26; pitching 6 innings while giving up 3 earned runs, walking 2, and striking out 4 despite earning a loss.

The Empire Pro Baseball League is a self budgeted independent professional baseball league based in New England with four teams including the Old Orchard Beach Surge (ME), Plattsburgh Cardinals (NY), Sullivan Explores (NY), and the Puerto Rico Islanders.  The league plays a 70 game season and boasts players from all college divisions including NCAA Division I, II, III and junior college.

Williams graduated from Lyndon State in May with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science. Williams had 11 appearances for the Hornets in 2017, earning 5 wins and 2 losses. In 61 innings pitched, he threw 51 strikeouts and earned a 3.54 ERA.
