SHAPE Facility Rules & Regulations

All SHAPE Facilities

Use of the Lyndon State College SHAPE Center’s facilities provides health and wellness benefits to employees, students, and community members.  All participants using the facilities are asked to follow the rules and regulations below for the safety of themselves and other participants, to maintain the equipment, and to assure cleanliness of the facilities. Staff members are expected to enforce the rules and regulations and have discretion to determine what is safe, sanitary, and within the expected rules. Participants are expected to abide by these rules and regulations and follow staff member instructions at all times. Participants who violate posted rules and regulations will be asked to change their behavior by a staff member. If the problem persists, the participant will be asked to leave the facilities. Incidents will be documented and reported to the facility director.

                                                                                                                                      

 

General SHAPE Center Policies:

  • Upon entering the SHAPE Center, participants must present their Lyndon State College issued ID to the staff member on duty. Participants may use the facilities only during posted operational hours when a staff member is on duty.
  • Participants under 16 must be directly supervised by an adult member. Participants using the Fitness Center must be at least 16 years old.
  • Participants are expected to show respect for the equipment, the facilities, and toward staff members and other participants.
  • Participants are encouraged to use appropriate and respectful language towards other participants and staff members and to avoid wearing clothing with images or messages that are inconsistent with Lyndon’s values of civility and respect or that promote the use of drugs or alcohol.
  • Taking photographs or video of anyone in the facilities without their consent is prohibited.
  • Fighting and horseplay are prohibited.
  • Pick up trash, towels, and personal belongings before leaving. Dispose of all trash in proper bins.
  • Please report any damaged equipment to a staff member immediately.
  • Plastic or metal water bottles are allowed. All other drinks, food, and glass containers are prohibited.
  • Use of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs of any kind are prohibited.
  • Classes and varsity athletic teams have priority and the facilities may not be available for general use at all times. Schedules showing the hours of operation are posted, although Lyndon State College reserves the right to change schedules to accommodate classes, varsity teams, and emergency situations.

 

SHAPE Center Risk and Liability:

  • Prior to using the Shape Center’s facilities, participants are required to complete and have on file an Information Form, Par-Q and a signed Waiver and Release, Assumption of Risk and Indemnification Agreement
  • Lyndon State College assumes no responsibility for any injury that may occur or for any lost or stolen items. Lockers are available for long term or daily use.
  • Participants use the facilities and equipment at their own risk.
  • Participants are encouraged to consult with their medical provider prior to undertaking exercise in the Facilities to determine that they are physically and mentally fit to participate in their chosen physical activity.

 

STANNARD/BOLE GYMS & RACQUETBALL COURTS Dress Code:

  • All participants must wear appropriate clothing while using the gymnasiums/courts.
    • Athletic shorts or sweats.
    • A shirt that covers the shoulders and the abdomen (cut-off shirts, sports bras with no over shirt, may not be worn).
    • Non-marking sneakers that are free of dirt and debris must be worn at all times. Boots, dress shoes, flip flops, sandals and bare or socked feet are not permitted.
    • Safety goggles are required for racquetball.
    • No earrings or loose jewelry that could become caught in clothing or on equipment and be ripped from the body.

 

POOL Dress Code:

  • All participants must wear appropriate pool attire.
    • All swimmers must wear proper bathing suits.  No undergarments or street clothes.
    • No street shoes on the pool deck.
    • A cleansing shower must be taken before entering the pool.
    • Long hair must be in a ponytail or bathing cap.
    • The SHAPE Center does not lend personal equipment such as goggles or bathing caps.

 

POOL Equipment Use and Safety:

  • No running on the pool deck.
  • Do not hang, sit, or swim over the lane-lines. 
  • Dive in designated (deep) areas only. 
  • When sharing a lane, stay to the right side of the lane or “circle swim.” 
  • Equipment (pull buoys, noodles, kickboards, etc.) must be used for their intended purposes only. 
  • No pushing, shoving, dunking or other horseplay in the pool or on the pool deck.
  • Children may wear Coast Guard approved flotation devices only. No water wings!
  • Snorkels and scuba gear may only be used during instructional classes.
  • No one with open cuts or communicable disease may use the pool.
  • No band-aids may be worn in the water.

 

 

FITNESS FACILITY Dress Code:

  • Keep all personal belongings (bags, coats, etc.) outside of the Fitness Center.
  • Keep all music devices that cannot be carried on your person out of the Fitness Center (e.g. boom boxes). Headphones must be worn at all times when using a personal music device.
  • All participants must wear appropriate clothing while using the Fitness Center.
    • Athletic shorts or sweats.
    • Standard length tee-shirt (no tank tops or sleeveless shirts of any kind).
    • Non-marking sneakers that are free of dirt and debris must be worn at all times. Boots, dress shoes, flip flops, sandals and bare or socked feet are not permitted.
    • Safety goggles are required for racquetball.
    • No earrings or loose jewelry that could become caught in clothing or on equipment and be ripped from the body.

 

FITNESS FACILITY Equipment Use and Safety:

  • Participants using the Fitness Center must be at least 16 years old
  • Use safety collars for all barbell exercises;
  • Use equipment only for its intended purpose;
  • Do not move or rearrange exercise machines;
  • Use a spotter at the head of the bench whenever performing an exercise where the bar or dumbbell is moving over the head, neck, or torso (e.g. bench press) and/or when lifting heavy weights;
  • Use a closed grip for all bench variations;
  • Use a power rack with crash bars at an appropriate height for all squatting exercises with a barbell;
  • Return all equipment to appropriate location after use;
  • Disinfect all equipment after use; Keep dumbbells and weight plates off of benches;
  • Report any damaged equipment to a staff member immediately; and
  • Remain in front of the Fitness Center desk at all times.
